Soaring Through The Sky: Mikko’s 7th Birthday Party

When I was picking a theme for my son, Miko’s, seventh birthday party on Pinterest, it all came down to an airplane themed party. This is because Mikko wanted to be a pilot, and he also has recently become an airplane enthusiast. There are many free birthday party printables that you can find online. You just have to pick the ones that best match your child’s party theme. Below are some of the photos of Mikko’s airplane themed birthday party.

The Cake

My husband and I are both very particular with design, so I searched online for airplane-themed cakes and gathered ideas from there. I showed the photos of airplane-themed cakes to my husband, and we both decided on which pegs are we going to use. We made sure that the cake design would not only look amazing but will taste delicious, as well. The cake is one of the highlights of every party, so we did our best to find the best cake supplier for Mikko’s seventh birthday. Thankfully, we were able to meet Janet of Sugarplum Pastries. She did not fail to deliver what we design we had in mind and made us a beautiful three-tiered airplane themed cake.

Here’s a picture of Mikko’s airplane themed cake:

The Registration Table

The Dessert Buffet

The dessert buffet consists of Stick-O, brownies (provided by Microtel), chocolate chip cookies, and candy favorites such as M&M’s, gummy bears, and gold chocolate coins. I bought everything (except brownies) from SM hypermarket.

The Stage Backdrop

It took me several weeks to finally come up with the backdrop design for Mikko’s airplane-themed party. I gathered airplane-themed backdrop pegs, including colorful silhouettes of famous world landmarks with a 3D airplane, maps, and travel-related sketches and showed them to our ever reliable stylist who made our dream stage backdrop a reality.

Party Favors

What could be a better party favor than a travel kit, right? So we came up with this idea because you always have a kit with you when you travel! Each kit contains soap, facial tissue, gums, pencil, crayons, and a small pad.

Other Party Elements (Centerpiece, Lanterns, etc)

In here, we decided that it’s best to incorporate the plane theme by bringing the whole process of checking in the airport for your flight. I thought it was pretty cool, and it went well with our overall theme. What happened was when the guests started arriving they registered to a ‘check-in desk.’ Their table assignments were called ‘gate assignments.’ There is also an airplane runway (found the idea on Pinterest!) in front of the check-in table. Mikko wore a nameplate titled ‘Chief Pilot.’ Of course, since we had to go as a family, we have our titles too! The flight stewardesses were my husband and me while each of our other family members is VIP Passengers. Of course, we didn’t forget to give Mikko’s younger guests some titles, too! We called the little boys custom offices while the girls were flight stewardesses. These were just some of the additional details we have incorporated in the theme to make it feel like more cohesive.

The table centerpiece consists of a globe, vintage luggage, and a toy airplane. The table dedicated for guests’ presents are labeled with ‘Baggage Drop-in’.

Thanks to The Little Big Stories for covering the event and for taking super awesome photos!

Mikko’s Solo Pictures

Family Photo

JB, the official photographer, asked us to walk along the corridor, which was located just beside the venue while he takes photos spontaneously. I must say that he did a pretty good job! It’s much better than posing. We wanted to give off something more candid and realistic. Since it’s Mikko’s birthday, after all, we wanted the shoot to be fun. Our family’s “uniforms” registered very well in the pictures. I loved how natural we all looked and how we were all wearing matching clothes.

With that, here are some tips on how you can plan your child’s party. May it be with an event coordinator or with your own.

It’s common for party planners to forget at least one thing. Make your party planning stress-free with by creating a birthday party planning checklist. If you plan or organize a kids birthday party without a checklist, there’s a high chance that you might forget something very important. A run-through your checklist before the day of the party would also help calm down some pre-event jitters.

Choosing a party theme can be challenging. Start with asking your child’s favorite cartoon show, his dream job, or favorite colors. It’s great that as a parent, you would want to have an aesthetically-pleasing party for your child. But what good would that be if your child won’t be able to appreciate it? So it’s best to incorporate your child’s interests and your imagination to a more lively, colorful, and child-friendly party. You can also browse for different birthday party themes on Pinterest.

For a birthday party on a larger scale, there are so many things to consider that might be missed on a do-it-yourself styling.

Hiring an event stylist for a big event will also often save you not only time but money because of their vast array of industry connections that can give discounts. They also have their own collection of unique pieces and decors for your party’s particular theme, again saving you time and money. As I mentioned in my earlier post, hiring a stylist won’t compromise your artistic skills as the concept, idea, most of the designs are yours, they will just provide and create the materials which you will not be able to use after the event anyway.

Here’s the list of the suppliers we hired for Mikko’s 7th Birthday:

With that, I am glad that the party went perfectly. It wasn’t only a fun and memorable experience for my son and his friends, but it also served as a mini-reunion for our families.
